Good to see that Wilson will be returning to work at the hospital. His presence has been missed with House.
Was that R. Lee Emory as House's father? Classic that house cut off a piece of his skin DURING the eulogy so that he could be tested to see if they were biologically related.
It was also nice to see the "old" team of Chase, Cameron, and Foreman working on diagnosing a patient together. Even though I like all of the "new" team, I still miss the "old" team.
From the previews for next episode:
It looks like maybe 13 is fired. With Taub's ongoing storyline about cheating on his wife, perhaps he will quit, leaving us with only Kutner. I wonder if they're preparing to move the "old" team back into their roles with House.

I agree, it's great that Wilson is back. Their road trip was very amusing. House throwing the flashlight into the drain, and then Wilson getting a backup flashlight was my best laugh. Also it was nice to learn how their relationship started.

So how did they end up at the same hospital? I would almost bet that Wilson was hired at Princeton Plainsboro, and House followed him there.
On a side note, I really can't see House at a convention. They're all about meeting people and schmoozing. House doesn't schmooze...

No, it wasn't. However, it was R. Lee Ermey aka Gunny. It would have been way better if we got to see him alive and interacting with House. Also would have been way better if he actually was House's biological father. That would explain a lot and allow House to scream "Find the cure, you maggots!!" LOL
P.S. Apparently, we did. IMDB lists R. Lee Ermey as John House for this episode and an episode in 2005 "Daddy's Boy". Oops.

Actually, I think I could see House working at Princeton-Plainsboro first, and recommending Wilson for an oncologist opening, just to have someone "interesting" around where he worked. I honestly can't see House following anyone anywhere.
And as for House at a convention - well, he was sent to the convention. We know he made it as far as a bar there. Who says he ever actually made it into the convention itself? :)

Where else did he see Wilson "walk around" with an envelope that he wouldn't open? :)
I think it's cool that House is apparently Janitor's (from Scrubs) brother, since they have the same father :)

Was this the first time we've seen Chase, Cameron and Foreman in the same scene since the end of Season 3? I agree it was nice to see them together again...without it looking forced.
I'm glad Wilson is back too. But I liked PI Guy...hopefully we haven't seen the last of him.

The end was cut off for me (for the second time this year -- I guess I have to start padding this show), just after House and Wilson were back at the hospital. What did I miss?

Had the same proble, but luckily I had recorded Fringe.
Wilson just told House that his old job hadn't been filled yet and he's coming back. That's about all.

Same here, second time this season, so will have to pad. Almost didn't get the end (as the beginning of Fringe) as there was no guide listing for Fringe last night! There were 2 thirty minute "Paid Programming" shows in my guide data! Thankfully I finished watching House about 25 minutes into Fringe, so could rewind back to see the end as well as a manual record of Fringe.
Not only did Wilson tell House he was coming back, he told him the road trip was the most fun he's had since Amber died. Then House asked him if he was hungry, and they left to go to dinner together. Yippee, I'm glad they are friends again:o

Definitely getting better, but to add even more detail, House also said, "Hey Wilson."
"Yeah?"
"My dad is dead."
"I know. My sympathies."
I'm guessing that's the most of a reaction to the news we're ever going to see from House, but to exclude that we did, in fact, actually see it, is leaving something out of the ending recap. ;)

ARGH!
My local fox affiliate has slipped their schedule so much that my 5 minutes of padding wasn't enough. Can someone give me a summary from: "If he flips on the MRI, she's dead." I read above about House/Wilson but I'm curious about the patient.

She had three needles embedded in her brain. As a baby, someone (presumably her father) put needles in her head, and left her to die (because of China's "one child" rule, but that conversation occurred before your recording was cut off, right?). Now, someone with needles in their brain should (pardon the expression) have died, but she did not. Had she gone in the MRI, though, the giant spinning magnet would surely have ripped the needles out, killing her in the process.
The reason her symptoms began when she tried to lift the statue was because House, ever the cynic about religion and all other things than cannot be logically explained, assumed (and quite likely rightfully so) that the statue's base must have a magnet in it, which will periodically lift itself into place, as to hold the statue down, thus simulating divine intervention, but in this case, causing the pins in her brain to shift (so I guess it's a magnet larger than any this woman would have been likely to come across elsewhere in her life until now).
Anyway, so they x-ray her head, and yup, sure enough, because this diagnosis was given within the final ten minutes of the show, of course it is accurate. There the pins are, plain as day. She is scheduled for surgery to have the pins removed, and it is explained to her parents that one of the pins is resting against the part of her brain responsible for addiction control, so in all likelihood, their adopted daughter is nowhere near as "bad" as they've always thought. See, the parents had wanted the doctors to tell her that her drug use had caused the problem, in hopes that maybe something would finally sink in. We're left to believe this won't be necessary, but we never see the patient or her family again.
<thinking out-loud: Uhm, let's see.. what else? Oh, yeah. Right.>
When Wilson enters House's office, before the conversation about him returning to the hospital, they also have an exchange in which we learn that House was right about his father. The DNA test confirmed that they were, indeed, not related. Wilson wonders why House isn't happy about this, or at the very least, proud of having figured it out at the age of 12. House says he's upset because knowing this doesn't change anything, and I guess he thought it would, but when it didn't, well, whatever. Who ever understands House, right?
Yeah, then Wilson said his position hadn't been filled, etc...

Thanks. My local affiliates are always screwing with their airings.
Last year, Fox and ABC were consistently late. This year, ABC is smack dab on time, Fox has slipped another 4 or 5 minutes, and NBC is a couple minutes late. I swear these local affiliates have never heard of a simple NTP client.

But... pins? I never figured that. What kind of way is that to try to kill a baby?

I've been recording old episodes of House. Even though I've seen them all. There was an older episode in which House revealed that his "father" abused him. By making him sleep outside in the yard. Also, ice water baths. I think it was the episode in which a young rape victim bonded with House during one of his clinic duties. She refused to talk to anyone else except House. During the episode she ask House to tell her a secret about himself. At first, House said his grandmother was the one who gave him ice water baths and sleeping in the yard. At the end of the episode, House told her the whole truth. That it was his father. Given the circumstances, I don't think House was lying to her.

House - start/end times -
This is getting nuts....
First it's THE UNIT getting moved to Sunday after football; looking to grab the "guy" audience... but messing with my Season Pass settings - now padded at the end -
Now - what's the deal with HOUSE... have to add a couple of mins at the end to handle the rollover past the exact hour.
BTW - tnx for the ending notes, our recording ended as Wilson came into the office as House was having a drink and handed the DNA test.

So does anyone else wonder what the heck is wrong with Wilson that he enjoys being abused by House? Before I thought he was just being patient with him but in this episode he admitted that he enjoyed the road trip with House. That's a little sick to me. If anyone treated me that way they would be limping back home without their cane (Ok, maybe not.). But I certainly wouldn't continue the relationship after the funeral.

One could just as easily ask what was wrong with House that he insisted on treating people the way he does. The man absolutely loves misery. I think this episode just served to let us know that Wilson and House are soulmates because of their compatible problems.

It's almost a sibling-like relationship between the two. Each enjoys and gets something from the conflict between them.

Oddly enough, they wouldn't be "ripped" out of her. If anything they would move somewhat, but not be ripped out. There could however, be significant damage from the movement.

You very well could be correct, but it is pure speculation at this point. But...
Maybe that is why the original team is still in the opening credits, and the new team is not. That credit thing has bugged since the original team was fired/quit.

Also left out of the recap was House saying to Wilson "If you're coming back just because you're attracted to the shine of my neediness..... I'd be OK with that."
House admitting that he needs Wilson's friendship represented a big step for him.

I'm pretty sure there's no spinning involved (among other things, trying to rotate a mass that large would take a fair amount of effort). It's just a very large electromagnet. The big ring tube is there to contain the magnet and also to allow for the coolant to flow.
Here's kinda a brief blurb: http://health.howstuffworks.com/mri4.htm
(Some of the work I do involves supporting researchers that do work using a 3T MRI. So I've been around one enough to laugh anytime they show one on House because of the inaccuracies, but don't necessarily know exactly how they work. I've especially loved the occasional scene where they're holding a conversation in the room with the magnet going. These things are very loud when actually operating.)
Actually, I recall from one of the season 4 DVDs that the new crew is more or less here to stay - the "old team" is around because they're classic, but the reason for the new team is that they add a new dimension for the writers to expose House's personality, background, or other aspect.
Of course, what probably will happen is the old team and the new team will probably merge in some form... or Foreman and House will split into two departments, and the teams will split between them. A lot of season 5 is what was intended for season 4 save the writer's strike.

I just watched this episode and I did enjoy it better than any this season. Yes, having Wilson back will be good. House's mom's reaction to seeing Wilson was amusing. The cop's reaction to the story and that House's dad had died was great. Wilson's reaction when House had him doing their 'thing' - what would cause this problem, imagine yourself a chinese woman that just gave birth - was wonderful. It was like that was when he knew he was hooked again. I think House knew it then too.
I did like the old team working together and it seemed like they liked it, but the new team has a couple of strong members and they shouldn't be just tossed aside.
Honestly, when House feel over in his office and woke up in the car, I figured we would learn that it was all a dream or something.

This was definitely a better than usual episode. Nice back story with House and Wilson.
The funniest part for me is when I was FFWing over commercials, I missed the part when House said "Cuddy drugged me." He said it immediately after the return from commercial.
So what did I think? OH, I had this whole scenario in my head that House passed out in his office because the Chinese lady coughed on him -- so he had the disease too. And as a result he was hallucinating the whole road trip with Wilson. LOL I kept saying "Wilson is being waaay too calm about this" (House throwing keys into sewer, etc.).
As the story progressed though, I kept thinking...maybe this IS real. Too many things were happening (like calls from his staff) that couldn't be explained. So eventually I gave in and just assumed that he had been drugged initially. Sure enough, courtesy of rewinding, he was. ;)
It was interesting to see things progress with that different impression though. You never know what to expect with "House." ;)
And thanks to those who described what happened after the recording cut off (for me too).
