Eli Stone is BACK.

WOW.

What a way to start the new season. Sigourney Weaver as "God" (apparently uncredited). Thank GOD they didn't go with James Earl Jones (cliche!). I'll take her over George Michael any day! When she said "She you soon" to Eli, I knew something might be up, but I wasn't guessing what what ultimately be her true identity.

On a smaller note, it was terrific to see Debrah Farentino as Jordan's wife. I've been a fan of hers since "Earth 2." Didn't care for her hairstyle though. ;)

Whenever this show is over, I always get a terrific feeling..almost giddy. For me it pushes all of the right buttons and never becomes overly sentimental or corny (although I am sure some would disagree).

I was actually kind of afraid they were going to kill off Jordan though. Victor Garber is also a personal favorite of mine, so thankfully it didn't turn out that way.

Ummm....is Natasha Henstridge pregnant???

And the subplot about the mortgages, that was so timely it was almost eerie. I wonder when they filmed this...within the past month? Or are they writers just that good? ;)

Kudos to Blake Neely's always moving score and Stargate Digital's nice crane crash sequence!

I didn't realize how much I missed this show until tonight. It might be my favorite show on television right now.

Actually, didn't she say she was God's fiduciary? Very strong episode. Glad it's back.

I had the same thought about Natasha.

That was a very strong opener to the season. I enjoyed this show last year and I hope the good writing continues. I loved Eli coming to terms with his destiny and giving his brother the gift of a normal life.

I was really wondering how they were going to capture last year's magic again with the aneurysm removed. Now I know, and I like it. ;)

This and Pushing Daisies are my two favorite shows on TV. I watch SO MANY cop shows, that the break these provide are welcome and cherished.

Why is everybody still doubting Eli after what happened last season? I know he had the surgery, but this guy has a good track record.

I'm impressed that they managed to rebuild the Golden Gate Bridge in just 4 months or so. :D

(Meanwhile, 7 years later the WTC is still a hole in the ground  )

Eli's brother gives me such an Eric Stoltz vibe that it's almost distracting.

Anybody catch the name of the "evil bank" that Jordan (Victor Garber) didn't want to do business with? It was Credit Dauphine. That was the front that SD6 used in the first few seasons of Alias (starring Victor Garber). :D:up:

They were referring to sub-prime mortgages, the ones where under-qualified people were "forced" to buy homes using them. This problem came to public attention earlier this year, probably around the time this pilot was being written. It predated the current economic crisis, and some believe, was a major underlying cause of it.

So glad to see this back. One of the absolutely feel-good shows on TV. I hope its prime spot after DWTS is a sign that ABC really wants to see this show do well.

I know we all do...:)

Was I the only one who, during the first 30 minutes or so, thought "My god, this show has jumped the shark!?"

The characters--mainly [Eli's ex] and her beau just seemed WAAAAAAY too pissy and upset about everything Eli was trying to do. It just seemed way out of character--I thought at the end of last season, everyone was all lovey dovey after the earthquake thing and then his surgery. And then with the brother getting the visions? And then Eli's therapist not being real? Hubby and I actually were rolling our eyes and actually said "If this doesn't turn around, the SP is deleted."

Thank goodness it did turn around. We ended up loving it. :D

While I think it was far from a shark jump, I totally agree with your point.

I, too, was thinking, "This is the guy that predicted the earthquake, the same guy that brought all kinds of positive and warm fuzzy publicity to your law firm. This is the same guy you were all weepy and worried about as he went in for surgery. Now you hypocrites are all, 'screw you you loony freak'?"

I agree, not particularly believable. Not particularly good writing.

What would have been realistic (and a direction in which I hope the writing goes) is to have his friends and coworkers tending to have "faith" in Eli's visions, while the outsiders (judges, opposing council...) scoff.

His boss seems to have unshaken faith in him at this point.

"If I start getting stalked by the other guy from Wham..." :D :D

I questioned that about the Golden Gate Bridge as well.

And loved that line about Andrew Ridgely!

But like others, I thought the ex-fiance's attitude was really out of character! She just looked like she'd gained a lot of weight all over to me.

Glad they didn't kill off Jordan. His attiude in the future will be quite interesting to see I think.

I loved how Jordan's been so profoundly affected by Eli's efforts last season that he decided he didn't want to get those particular pond-sucking clients back, which ultimately saved his life, too, as well as how Patti even wanted to see the "old Eli" back.

This episode seemed to be almost a reintroduction to the characters -- a recap of last season, so to speak.

Can't wait for the next episode, though! Won't say why -- that would be spoilin'.

When Eli was speaking with Sigourney about him wanting to be "the one" and to leave his brother out of it, I thought he was then going to wake up in the hospital bed after his operation and realize that everything up to that point in the episode had been a vision.

I just chalked it up to her being stressed out about her father, and went along for the ride.

I really like this show - it will be even more interesting now that Eli has accepted his condition instead of fighting it.

Totally agree about the giddy feeling after the ep is over, but man, I hope you were kidding about the crane crash sequence. That might be some of the worst CGI I've ever seen. Actually, the crane itself wasn't so bad, but the way the load was just flung around and then went flying was awful.
Certainly can't argue with that.

I noticed the Dalphene bank thing as well. In fact, I had to pause it and explain to my wife where that came from since she wasn't an Alias fan. Good first show, although I'm not quite sure I like "God is talking to Eli" as the way this is going. I did like that Jordn is getting some moral fiber. It will be interesting to see the infighting in the firm as they move away from taking high priced clients at all costs and take on underdog clients.

i thought the same thing about the golden gate bridge :D

and i'm glad i'm not hte only one who though Natasha Henstridge looked a little thicker. I said the same thing to my roommate. At first, i though pregnant but then just figured it was middle age weight gain. Still hot as crap though. :D

and definitely didn't see the shrink being a vision thing coming at all!

i dont get it..if that door was locked, how did he get into the office for the past 3 months?

I hope the bro and ex etc all never doubt him again...or this will turn into that other show where no one believes the main character ever but they are always right

Who's to say that he's ever actually been in that office before the janitor let him in? He does have a history of seeing and experiencing things that aren't actually there. ;)

haha I've been thinking the same thing, in this seasons episodes there is nothing but doubt. I keep saying BUT HE PREDICTED AN EARTHQUAKE! and I would love for him to respond to someone like that for once

If you live in San Francisco and repeatedly make predictions about earthquakes, you will eventually be right. Nothing mystical there. :)
