No thread yet? I guess it's to be expected given a DirecTV-only run right now.
I don't know if it's just the fact that we finally have some new FNL to watch, but I'm loving this season so far. Instead of the mis-steps that S2 took to start off with, it seems like the writers have gone back to what made S1 so great - just telling stories about life in a small town that revolves around the high school football team.
A freak dust-storm seemed to invade my family room during the scene where Coach tells Smash and Mama Smash about the walk-on tryout with Texas A&M and then you hear the outburst of joy from inside the house as he away. And it appears that same dust storm hit Coach T as well - seemed to me like he got a little misty-eyed there too. This is one of my favorite storylines of the new season. It makes the Smash character more likable, but it really shows you what a guy the Coach is, and how he truly cares for his players, even when they can't do anything else for him. Hopefully Smash gets his scholarship after all and rides off into the sunset.
You had to know the power play from the Mayor and Buddy was coming. I'm interested to see how that all shakes out.
Speaking of Buddy, you also had to know that he was going to tell Riggins to stay away at some point, but I wish it hadn't been right before the dinner. I would have liked to have seen Tim do well at the dinner party first. And what with him ordering squab, cooked rare? Yikes. Though I had to LOL at Tim coming home, getting a beer, and dropping trou right in front of the fridge. :)
Did we know that Saracen's mom had (apparently) walked out on him earlier? He had some serious ill-will for her. I feel bad for that kid - his life has never been easy, and now it's getting even tougher with Grandma going downhill (hilarious that she still thought Cagney & Lacey was on) faster and faster. At least things are looking up on the romance front, as he and Julie appear to be on their way to reconnecting.
And finally, nice job by Tyra bringing strippers to school to help with her campaign.;) The VP is a d-bag, but I had to agree with him about this one. I cracked up at her campaign speech, though, and at some of Landry's slogan proposals ("A vote for Tyra is a vote for hotness" and "Vote Tyra, get action"). We need more Landry.
