I have a Sony SVR2000, with an upgraded drive and I keep getting this error when trying to play a recording:
"Error playing a recording"

It happens on recording that played and recorded fine before. It seems new recordings causes some of the older ones to revert to this state.

I used mfstools 2.0, and all my other TiVOs worked fine, including this one for many years, until recently. I believe the swap space is fine. I repeated the steps several times, using different drives, different images (original/latest image), to no avail.

I also tried a full reset and delete everything, but the problem returns. I have concluded it is not a bad drive, nor bad image, but something else that is getting corrupted.

I have read through all similar threads and couldn't find a solution.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Well, I gave up on this issue and started looking for a new unit. I called TiVo and found out my unit qualifies for a one-time lifetime transfer. I picked up a TiVo HD and couldn't be happier. The PQ is amazing, and I love the dual tuner. Networking opens up a whole world. I was living in the stone ages compared to what I have now. Get one!

Oh, something not really advertised: I think you get a 25% discount on the lifetime if you are already a TiVo customer.

That's news to all of us. My understanding, and that of many others on this board, is that Sony didn't release its first TiVo unit until after the 1/21/2000 cutoff.

But if TiVo let you do it, all the better
