I have Comcast digital cable in southeastern Pa. I use the IR set up and my Tivo number starts with 240. For a few months now I am having trouble recording the right channel. the most common problem is when it should record a channel it drops a digit. Programmed for 301 but records 30, 66 records 6. sometimes it switches to "on demand" when it should be recording something else. it is getting worse and driving me crazy. I have unpluged the digital cable receiver, and the Tivo too, but no better. I really don't want to cancel this and use the Comcast DVR. ANy idea how to fix this?

There may be instructions in your TiVo manual (don't have mine handy) explaining how to change the speed of the IR blaster's flashings. (I don't use a cable box, so never had to check into this too much.)
Sounds like maybe the flashings are too slow or too fast and either the box isn't getting the final digit before changing or it's not getting it at all.
I know you said your TiVo number starts with 240, but what is the full model number? Should be on the back of the TiVo.

There is a specific Tivo help article on channel changing issues when using an external box and an IR blaster:

gastrof- no way am I posting my full Tivo number on here for someone to steal the number and mess with my subscription. Why is the rest of it important?
RonDawg-- that seemed to work, however everything I have tried seems to work at first, then I wake up and Tivo recorder QVC instead of something I want to see. Thank you for the help, I will let you know how it goes.

You weren't asked for your TiVo's ID number.
You were asked for your TiVo's MODEL number. As in "What type of TiVo do you have?"
How did you confuse a request for one as a request for the other?

Probably the same way that you could misinterpret someone saying that they can't get an MSD rate because the tivo is already being sold at a discounted price as them saying that they can't get an MSD rate because they already have a lifetime subscription.
These forums are riddled with misinterpretations.
BTW - The OP already said that it's a 240. No need to be any more specific because the only difference would be the size of the hard drive, which isn't relevant.

Switching channels with an IR blaster can sometimes be problematic. Try adding a delay between each channel number to allow enough time for the IR receiver to respond to the input. Chances are the Tivo is sending the channel info too quickly for the STB to respond and select the proper channels.

Not quite.
There's a difference between not knowing there's a MSD rate on purchases and not knowing a model number's been asked for...when that's all that was asked for.
The model number? Maybe I wanted to do a google search?
By the way...
Are you "fjp110"?

Your are right. It's very different. Misinterpreting model # for service # is much easier to do than to completely change what was said regardless of what you know or don't know about MSD pricing.
"I can't get MSD because YYY."
"Let me get this straight, you can't get MSD because ZZZ?"
How do you magically turn YYY into ZZZ when you quote them and see that they said YYY?
because you have such a short memory
was told that I couldn't have the multi-service discount ... because the TiVo I was buying was discounted.
Let me get this straight...
You tried to order a TiVo HD with Lifetime, and they told you that you can't have the multi-service discount because you already have a Lifetime TiVo.

WTF? I'm scandia101. Look on the left hand side of your posts where it says 'gastrof' now if you look at the same place on the left hand side of my posts you'll see 'scandia101' that's how you know who posted something. You don't have to guess or ask, it's all right there
Welcome to the tivo community forums. I'm sure there's a lot for you to learn here.

I'm having a similar issue on my Comcast HD box (and sometimes on my non-HD old large Moto box). However, in addition to the channel changing incorrectly, more and more frequently the Tivo "thinks" the channel has changed but in actuality, it's still on the original channel. I can 'trick' it by manually going up or down 1 channel, but that doesn't help for unmonitored recordings such as last night's Pres debate that started before I got home.
-- I had been recording on channel 68, was supposed to be recording on channel 6, guide said channel 6, but never moved from channel 68. --
I have the IR blaster tented, so I don't think this is the issue, I have the remove set on the slower setting. I'm also in southeast Pennsy. Is there a connection here?
I guess I'll try changing the speed and see if that helps.
I had some similar issues with my cable company's Motorola boxes.
This thread about Cable Box Compatibility (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=128743) was instrumental in helping me get the situation under control.
I still have a missed channel change once a month or so, but at first it was horrible.

First off . . .I guess I am a jerk because I thought the info I provided was enough and I thought the number i was being as for was a serial number. SO everyone laugh at me. now that we are done with that.
MusicMama I wondered if it had to do with Comcast.
RonDawg I tried what you said in the first place. It worked for a week or so. the speed changing sounds like a good next step.
Does anyone know how to make this change?
