I have a TiVo Series 2 box that is out of warranty and tech support says it is dead ... but they'd be happy to sell me a new one (of course).

I am wondering if there is a way to salvage it. Here are the symptoms:

1. There is no video/sound output.
2. The green power light on the front does not come even after power cycling the unit (unplugging it and plugging it back in).
3. I know that the unit is getting power because I can hear/feel the fan go on when I plug it in.
4. I have tried hooking it up to two different televisions with both Composite and S-Video cables and the result is the same in all cases.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Can you hear the disk drive running?
It is possible for the fan to run with a bad power supply.
The fan is on the 12 volt supply, the computer runs off of 3.3 volts.
Look at the power supply and see if any of the capacitors look swelled up - thats a pretty common problem.

Be careful to not touch the power supply while the unit is plugged in - there is high voltage on some of the parts.
