Like last year and the year before, the "left hand" (TiVo) and the "right hand" (DirecTV) don't know what each other are doing when it comes to making the NHL Center Ice channels (769-785) active/available on Tivo.
The problems is due to the "middle hand" (<<insert company name here>>) that acts as the go-between TiVo and DirecTV hasn't been sent the NHL Center Ice channels from DirecTV; therefore, TiVo can't activate them.
The only television in my house that doesn't see the NHL Center Ice channels in either (1) the Guide or (2) in Settings/Channels, is the one hooked up to a Series 2 TiVo box and the usual DirectTv box. Yes, I can key in 771 or whatever manually via the TiVo remote and get to all of those channels, so it's not like it's the end of the world or anything like that.
This "left hand forgets to talk to the middle hand which in turn cannot relay the information to the right hand" issue happens every year about this time and it's getting tiresome to have to call up both companies and ask them to please do a better job of communicating with each other when it comes to reactivating the NHL Center Ice channels.
Like last year, in about a week or so, they'll once again figure out what they screwed up and everything will be OK until this same time in October 2009 when ..... I'll be using FIOS and won't give a <<insert bad word of your choice here>> because DirecTV's exclusive on NHL Center Ice expires.

I get NHL center ice on Comcast so Direct TV does NOT have an exclusive.

I get NHL center ice on Comcast so Direct TV does NOT have an exclusive.Thank you for setting me straight. Perhaps whatever exclusive DirecTV once had expired sooner than I thought. In any event, I'll have to verify NHL Center Ice availability through FIOS before I shut down the old TiVo/DirecTV combo.

I am having a similar issue with my Tivo and a Canadian provider Shaw Cablesystems. I have put in the request to Tivo and to Tribune but I don't know how long it will take to set up.
As of right now I cannot manually record any games until it gets fixed.

:mad:TIVO for those of us who own TIVO dedicated DVRs is nothing but a service to display available channels. Why should I pay a premium and full fee if I only get a partial TV guide? No NHL CENTER ICE channels, No NBA channels?? C'mon TIVO this is lame and unacceptable...

And sure enough, after five days into the season, TiVo and DirecTv once again figured out how to exchange the necessary information to make NHL Center Ice channels appear in the Guide. Too bad the actual game information doesn't appear in the guide - just two hour blocks of time. Details of game information only appear when I change to a particular NHL Center Ice channel via the remote, so expecting actual game information to show up in the Guide after never having been displayed the past four years is probably a bit unrealistic on my part. But heck, I'll be on FIOS this time next year so it's not a big deal.

I get NHL center ice from comcast, and my Tivo shows accurate listings for those channels. So the information is there at Tivo/tribune. Maybe the issue is with your cable company (or in the case of the OP directv). I don't know - I'm just guessing

As I understand it is a service to provide up to date and accurate TV schedules. It is also a system to command your devices to be on the correct channel when a program you wish to record is broadcast.
I have DirecTV SD receiver, a simple set top box, a TIVO series II "brain". In regards to catching NHL Center ICE games (for which I pay about $5 a game when all is said and done) TIVO is worthless. So far the IR remote command has failed to change channels 3 of 6 times. Though I have managed to work around the KLUDGE of a "TV GUIDE" provided by TIVO I find the service incomplete and unnacceptable.
Instead of simply scanning on TIVO to find my favorite teams schedule I first go to NHL.com to see if my team is playing, then go to DirecTV to see what channel they are playing on then I have to manually set up the Tivo to record. After all this BS I have missed 1/3 of the season so far due to an erratic and unpredictable IR control system. By profession I am a Media systems programmer - I design and repair control systems such as AMX and Crestron. I am patient in regards to control issues however, I really want to SHATTER the TIVO remote by throwing it against the wall. Last year I had DISH next year I will return, will TIVO survive ... not in this hockey fans house.
