I hate comcast... I hate their DVR's crappy software, I hate their customer service, I hate their name.

I want to go back to Directv, however, their HDDVR is slow as hell too! So now I need a tivo with Dishnetwork but they are so confusing on what you have to do to get it.

Anyone have any good deals and ideas for a plan to get Directv with Tivo?

Im an older member but I lost my old account when I left for comcast.

Thanks for your help!

The Tivo HD only works with cable and OTA. There are currently no Tivos that work with Directv for HD channels other than OTA HD. Directv and Tivo did sign a deal for a new DVR, but that probably won't happen for many moons.

I would be willing to stay with Comcast if I can get a good deal on a TIVO then, any ideas on where to look?

Are there any alternatives to the HDDVR's that comcast makes me use? Like other brands?

Sure. Pick up a Tivo HD ($250ish from Amazon), order two cable cards from Comcast and your set. You'll have a nice DVR interface and all the Tivo fun you can hope for. Now that won't fix Comcast's picture issues or limited HD channel selection, but it should be enough to tide you over until the new DirecTV HD Tivo launches late next year (hopefully).

P.S. Fios in your area yet?

Yes, the Tivo HD has 2 receivers. You can get an M-Card from Comcast. It didn't cost me any extra since I only have one digital box connected to their system.

I havent had tivo in a few years, does it still not have a 30 second skip, if so is that hack still available?

Yes, it has the 30-sec skip. I can't remember if I had to put it in with the Tivo HD's or not. If I did, then I've done it one time, and Tivo remembers the setting when it reboots.

I had 'standard' DTivo boxes - only programming the 30-sec skip - so when I got the 2 Tivo HD's, I was excited to get the new features such as Amazon Unbox, and MRV. Right now, because of MRV, I only have one dvr hooked to Comcast. The second Tivo HD gets the internet and OTA broadcasts. I can view most shows on either dvr.

You can also buy a refurbished TiVo HD unit for $180.

That is about the lowest price you will find, unless you have an older unit that is receiving OTA programming. I believe TiVo is running a special to try and convert those customers to an HD unit.
