Would like to add external hard drive storage to my series 3

I would like to add some extra recording space to my
series 3 tivo using an external drive.
any body have any suggestions for a Tivo newbie.
Forgot to mention I have that external interface face plug that is on the back
do not remember what its called, I would like to use that and not have to open up the
tivo to replace the hard drive

I've got a Western Digital "My DVR Expander". It's approved by Tivo and is extremely easy to set up. It is designed to run 24 hours a day with a DVR, where a standard external HD is not.
