Hi, first to build a little good will for myself. I've upgraded about 25 TiVos for friends and family for free but I haven't done any in years. I was using a Win98 computer that is no longer available.
My TiVo HD is currently using the My DVR expander from WD and reboots constantly. Tivo shipped me a new box and it still happens. Time for a 1 TB drive to replace the internal one I guess.
I just need a little reassurance before my hardware purchases. I am buying the WD10EVCS and two USB/SATA adapters.
Will this allow me to use my new HP laptop running WinXP for the upgrade?
I just noticed 2 SATA connectors on my desktop motherboard, is it worth $40 for the adapters to use the laptop? I'm not transferring recordings.

If you aren't transferring recordings, you only need one adapter, but you will needs some drive to write a backup image to (<1GB). I think if you use WinMFS, you can write to your Windows drive.

If you can use your desktop system, you don't even need the adapters.

I'm going to try it all on the desktop w/out adapters.
Haven't been in a Tivo in years, I'm really dissapointed with the failure of the external My DVR expander. just trying to make the best of a bad situation. thanks, time to print out an upgrade guide. Have to decide which method is best I guess.
