View Full Version : Dead DVD Drive?

Hi,

Recently the DVD unit on my SD-H400 stopped working (won't open, seems stuck in the "closed" position).

Anyone have any idea how tough it would be to replace the DVD unit (or what unit I should try to get)?

I was using it as a video extender (replaying Video recorded on another TiVo) and as a DVD player. Since it doesn't have any local feed, without the DVD player I'm leaning more and more toward upgrading to a Series3/HD TiVo so it can record over the air.

Suggestions?

I have an Optiplex GX150 with a combo CD-reader&writer/DVD-reader drive. Recently, while reading tracks from a CD, the drive's read speed began slowing and then finally stopped, and the entire computer hanged. I wasn't able to shut down the computer or even turn off the power button, and I finally had to just unplug the whole thing, wait a bit, and plug it in again. Now, when I push the power button, all I get is a solid amber light on the button, and the machine won't boot up.

Surely most any drive would work in the unit.

I have a Humax unit, the dvd drive gives me issues every now and then. I was just gonna throw another one in. Didn't think there might be a problem.

See this older thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=383493&highlight=pioneer+dvd) for info on what drive worked back at the beginning of the year. I doubt you can use just any drive.
