I just ordered the refurbed HD Tivo because it seemed like a really good deal, and offered more than twice the recording space on basic. I do not presently have an HDTV (but may get one in the future) nor do I have digital cable. I have basic cable from Comcast and connect directly from the cable... no cable box.
Given my circumstances, do I need someone from Comcast to provide the Cable cards? Can I just hook the Tivo up myself?
Thanks so much!

If you still have analog channels from your cable provider, and they are sufficient for your needs, no you do not need CableCards.
CableCards are only necessary for the encrypted digital channels. You may be able to get non-encrypted digital channels (particularly the OTA locals) but you will not have any guide data for them.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I don't, at present, have any encrypted digital channels, and due to my location, I can only get one local OTA channel, so I do rely on cable.
Down the road, if I do get a HDTV and digital cable, I can add the cable cards.
Can't wait to get the unit... this will be my first DVR!
