View Full Version : So I'm guessing this is bad (VERY delayed remote actions & random reboots)

I have a 19 month old S3. Just last week started random reboots while recording shows. A day or so later started random delays in responding to the remote or front panel buttons.

It can go hours with normal operation and then start the above. I'll be calling TiVo tomorrow, but wanted to confirm my amateur diagnosis.

Is my original TiVo hard drive dying? Based on the few posts of similar actions, I'm not hopeful. I guess I need to start looking for DB35s?

More info: It only seems to reboot while record when it is recording HD programs, but will also restart when I'm pestering it with repeated remote clicks while moving around menus that take a hauntingly long time to acknowledge.

Same thing happened to me, then it just stopped working.

Most likely a HD failure. but one thing you could try before calling tivo is popping out the cablecards and rebooting it. works magic 70% of the time

Sounds exactly like what one of mine was doing. Swapping out the hard drive resolved it completely. No issues since then.

This is a similar situation to mine, where a stock S3 starting having major problems with HD channels after about 15 months of trouble-free use. Major pixelation on HD channels, long delays responding to remote clicks, and eventual reboots after I would hammer the remote for a few minutes.

Tivo support said it was a hardware problem, and American Express gave me a full refund (Go Amex!). But I'm still trying to fix the box now that it would otherwise be a brick.

So far, all the diagnostics I've run have showed no problems with the hard drive. I've got a couple of new drives from Fry's and time set aside this weekend to try and figure out the root cause.

Mine resolved with a hard drive replacement. It's definitely worth a try.
