I'm wondering if someone can help me replace a failing hard drive in a series 2 Tivo DVR 80g. Can someone link some good instructions on how to do this? Also, can you just pop in a replacment and it will work?

Welcome to the TiVo Community

You can replace the drive with an 80G or larger drive. The Series2 TiVo's use an EIDE (PATA) drive. Cache or spindle speed are not important when using the drive in the TiVo. Unless you get a pre-loaded drive you will need to copy a TiVo image to the drive. The image can be transferred from the old drive or from a backup image like the one on the Instant Cake CD.

Do It Yourself image from your original drive.
Requires a PC and some knowledge of computer hardware maintenance.
