So now that the TiVo HD XL has been out for a few days has anyone opened one up to see if any of the parts inside are different than what are used in the TiVo HD (excluding the hard drive of course)?
Thanks,

I think Davezatz has internal photos on his blog, but there is no indication there what parts are notably different.

I think Davezatz has internal photos on his blog, but there is no indication there what parts are notably different.I had seen the article, what he said was "The internals appear pretty much the same,...", I was actually wondering about the OTA digital tuner. My TiVo HD doesn't tune OTA digital as well as my Panasonic TV, so I was wondering if they had upgraded the tuner or not.
Thanks,

I'm curious about the audio/video bits.
Just wondering if they had to update anything for thx or just that they had the time this time around to submit it for testing.

I think that THX bit is just marketing BS. It's of no use anyway till you have THX certified ears :).

personally I'm no 'phile so dont care really for my needs- but I am curious if they had to change hardware to get the cert.

It's not all marketing. THX is the reason BEST quality for analog looks better on the S3 than on the S2.
^
Therefore, in a similar vein, BQ on S3 and HDXL should be superior to BQ on Tivo HD?
Best quality analog on my Tivo HD looks better(?) than on my S2 units. So maybe thx isn't necessarily the difference, just better engineering as time move forward.

It also looks better on the TiVo HD than on the S2. Betetr hardware does indeed make it look better and THX cert calls for a minimum hardware level that is better than what an S2 has so you cna connect like that.
however this does not imply in itself that the THX certified TiVo HD XL is better than the Tivo HD at analog encoding
