Is the S3 still faster than the TivoHD?

I currently own two S3's. Now that TV season is upon us, I'd like to add a third TiVo to the arsenal. I seem to recall reading that the S3's are pretty much faster in all respects when compared to the newer boxes. Is this still the case, or have there been some software/firmware updates that have helped to level the playing field? The most important thing to me is MRV speeds, as all three boxes will be located in different rooms.

There used to be a big difference in transfer speed. Now it is quite similar.

Yes, but it's much closer than before. Not really a discriminating factor for purchase, although it's a nice thing if you happen to have a couple of S3's.

I've noticed though, that the S3 doesn't slow down nearly as much when transferring and recording two things at the same time, where the THD slows down signicantly.

Good topic as I'm considering this right now too.

It seems like since the S3 is beefier in these respects it will be a better decision for me (over the THD).

Ever since I got Tivo, it seems like the number of recorded shows is increasing and the who-wanting-to-watch-what is requiring more Tivos in the house. The transfering of shows between Tivos is becoming critical.

My feature request would be for a "Tivo Server" that schedules recordings on your "Tivo Nodes" (S3, THD) according to which node is available. That way, recordings are managed in one place and you don't have to go room to room (for example) to set up everything.

Now, let's just get that S3 rebate back into play. I'm waiting.
