I'm having trouble with my guide and SPs, mainly due to Ike. I just got power & Internet back today, and episodes are just now repopulating the To-Do List. But I don't see a new Mad Men this Sunday. Are they skipping a week? And how many eps do we have left in this season?

TIA!

Yes...rerun this Sunday (9-21)....new ep 9-28....don't know how many for the season. IMDB lists five more, but who knows...Futon Critic says 13 for this season. Next new one is S02E09, so that would be just about right.

It's because of the Emmy's.

Thanks. My To-Do List has finally repopulated. Took several hours. I guess between being without an update for a week, plus so many SPs finally coming alive, the poor little TiVo hamster was working like crazy. It took an hour just to download!

Looking good for Mad Men. Ratings are up 70% over last season.

Correction....AS MUCH AS 70% -- "Ratings have increased as much as 70 percent over last year, series creator Matthew Weiner told The Associated Press. "

Big difference...that's the highest point ratings have been up...not consistently. Still good news, though...

It's because of the Emmy's.

That makes no sense. What does that have to do with anything? They didn't show the Emmys on AMC. They showed a rerun.

From AP

Millions watched "Mad Men" make history on ABC as basic cable's first show to win a best drama award at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Way up the tuner on AMC, a tiny sliver of that audience watched the most recent "Mad Men."

Way to get the facts right AP!

I could give a crap about the emmy's. Good job knowing your audience AMC. I was so irritated last night.

It very well could depending on the ratings for the Emmy. Why show a new episode if you are going to get clobbered in the ratings from a once a year show.

It really makes no sense when you consider they reshow Mad Men episodes multiple times. If you just had to watch the Emmys last night, you could have set your dvr/vcr to another showing.

Despite the increased use of technology, I'd venture an educated guess that the majority still watches it live.

If you just had to watch the Emmys last night, you could have set your dvr/vcr to another showing. But I'd assume their advertising prices are higher for that first airing; especially when compared to some of the re-airings which are in the wee hours of the morning. If they show the new episode up against the Emmys and they lose viewers, suddenly that time slot looks less valuable to advertisers.

Quite true, but maybe they could spread the advertisement money out differently per rebroadcast on weeks that they know the first showing will get clobbered by some big event.

Or - they could skip a week, especially a week when they had a pretty good chance of being honored as the first regular cable network program to win the Emmy for drama, maybe even understanding that their particular core audience may be just the people that would be tuning into the Emmys in the first place. (I didn't, I really don't care about the Emmys. :))

I have a feeling that if there was any thought at the network that it would be in their best interest to air a new episode that night, they would have. I just don't imagine their loyal audience would be too concerned about having to wait a week.

And just wondering out loud, I wonder how the "Mad Men" audience would have felt if they happened to be watching a new episode and learned that on another channel the show was winning a huge award. I would imagine there would be a few "gee, I'm really sorry I missed that" feelings among them.

It is certainly not unique for a network to not burn an episode by running it opposite of a program that would be likely to take a large bite out of it's audience.

Why don't you re-read what you wrote here and tell me what's wrong with your premise. ;)

I don't care that they skipped a week. The season is so short anyway, that extending it a little is a good thing. However, does the show actually air opposite the Emmys? Here in AZ, the first airing of Mad Men is at 10 pm, and the Emmys ended at 9:58.
