for those interested...

the WD10EVCS 1TB drive specifically for DVR's has a new low price of $147.99 @ buy.com: http://www.buy.com/prod/western-digital-av-gp-wd10evcs-hard-drive-1tb-serial-ata-300-serial/q/loc/101/206827123.html

while not the cheapest 1TB drive... from other posts I'm thinking the surest one to work right and be quiet in the S3 or HD... I ordered one at 4PM ET and it shipped today via Fedex 2Day for $5.49... good deal, reasonable shipping, and good service

note: sometimes the price goes up to $184 during nighttime hours sometimes... dunno why, just check back a few hours later or the next day... the price goes right back down

In my experience, you get what you pay for with Samsung drives. They make better TVs than hard drives IMO. I'd pay a few extra bucks for the WD.

again, while not the cheapest drive, it's a good deal on probably the best drive

if you feel risky... there's the recertified WD10EACS at Newegg for $109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136293

btw the risky part probably isn't the recertified part.. it's that model number

If you're going to go the Samsung route, then get their equivalent to the WD Green Power drive, namely.. THIS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16822152135)one. Low power, 5400rpm drive. AND it's $10 cheaper than your deal! win-win.

There is some residual bad feeling for Samsung drives, but the reviews I've seen all seem to say that they are now very reliable.
