Hi all,

I have to upgrade my HDD as my 160gb drive died a few weeks ago. Not wanting to spend too much money on a 1tb drive, I am struggling to find a smaller drive with 5400rpm spindle speed. I have come across this 400gb one:

This one isnt strictly a 5400 drive but it does operate between 5400 and 7200. Will this be appropriate for Tivo?

If not, can someone please suggest a drive?

Any help you can offer will be really appreciated.

Thanks

I believe that's a 500Gb drive you are looking at, not 400Gb. And yes, it seems to come recommended, based on this thread:

In fact, I just ordered two tonight! (1 for me, 1 for my dad's Tivo). Got them from Dabs, which the BT shop you linked to is a rebranded version of. I got the 16mb (I assume cache) rather than the 8mb you linked to, for about a fiver more (simply as there is only 1 left in stock of the 8mb one, so I thought I might as well get two the same).

You'll need a SATA drive to IDE motherboard converter as well, afaik. I got 2 off ebay for about 2.50 each (from Hong Kong).

I'll let you know if they arrive or not! Hope this helps.

The best drive I know for TiVo upgrades is the Samsung HA250JC - 250gb, 5400rpm, very quiet and low vibration/heat - available bare from www.ultratec.co.uk or preconfigured from somewhere I cannot mention ;)

Thanks warrenrb and blindlemon. Yeah I meant 500g and 400g. I have ordered 16m cache version, see how it goes :)
