DirecTV called me a month or two back and tried to sell me on a new dish for HD. I told the guy we already got HD, but he insisted that I needed a new dish in order to get a few more HD channels, none of which were that compelling.

Fast-forward to now, and one of my lines has stopped working so I need a service call. I figured we might as well get a newer dish, so I am signed up for the latest slimline model. But here's the question the CSR can't answer for me - we have both an old TiVo HR10-250 and a DirecTV HR20-700. Will the TiVo keep working (including what little HD it still gets) with the new dish? Also, can anyone point me to the list of new channels this dish will get? The CSR I talked to was really clueless.

Older receivers will still function exactly as before. My HR10-250 and GXCEBOT (series 1 DirecTivo) work just like before. Both are configured for a Phase III dish. My HR20-100 gets all of the new HD channels from the same dish.

Check out DirecTV's site for a list of their new HD channels. If you want you can also check out what channel is on which satellite by going to Lyngsat.com.

Note that you will also have access to some local channels in HD.

Cool - thanks everyone! I'll leave the install as scheduled then.

I'm still not clear on whether I'll actually get any new HD channels, but that's not a huge deal. I know I won't get AMC in HD, which is what I was hoping for (for Mad Men).

When I moved to the Slimline my numbers increased about 15 points on my HR10's, so I would expect better rain-fade capability as well.
