View Full Version : Does TiVo output to multiple sources or just 1?

Just out of curiosity. I have a S2 540 unit, it's hooked up in the living room to my TV using SVideo and then audio to my stereo. My bedroom is next door. If I ran a coax from the coax out on the TiVo to the tv in my bedroom, would the TiVo output to both sources? Or was there somewhere in the menus I had to say output using SVideo or output using Coax? Just thinking of a quick solutoin to get TiVo in the bedroom as well, get a remote extender and then have a second remote in there. Otherwise I guess I could get a S-Video splitter box to do the same thing, just more a pain dealing with audio. Would be willing to give up quality in the bedroom to use coax since it's going to have audio as well.

Pretty sure you can output both simultaneously without a problem.

All outputs are active on that unit. If you don't really need the higher quality, then use the coax output. Just remember to tune the TV to either ch 3 or ch 4 depending on what the TiVo is set to.

This is how I have my 240 set up: SVideo in living room and coax to the bedroom, serviced with radio shack brand remote extender. Everything works fine, except the remote extender can be a little finicky at times. It's probably just bad placement on my part.

Perfect! Will look into it, won't be setting it up for awhile just curious if it was possible. I'm picky for quality but figure bedroom whatever :)

One thing to note -- coax output is in *mono* audio. That's true of every consumer level device I have ever heard of -- and professional products wouldn't be using coax output in the first place!

Yes, even though you can get stereo from the original cable signal, if you use coax output, you don't get it when using coax out on devices.

BTW, the Series 3/TivoHD don't have coax output at all, in case you are thinking of upgrading to one of those.

As OP said "bedroom--whatever"!
