Hi all. I have a new un-activated series 3 that i want to put lifetime on. I am in communication with someone who has a grandfather series 1 that he is willing to sell the sub for. (he will call and activate my tivo with his transfer.)
My question is: does this lifetime sub then have a history that i dont really want? in a couple of years if my tivo breaks and i send it in, are they less likely to help me because they see that the sub is 10 years old?
I guess i am just looking for clarification on any downsides to this transaction. thanks

First of all, unless you even actually know this person, sounds fishy to start with. Are they selling you the sub below what you can get it for? Second, it would be connected to his account, not yours. And not sure how long it would have to be on his account before you could legally move it to your own. Someone else would have to respond on how that works these days.

Well your box comes with the same warranty no matter what, so that's covered for whatever normal warranty came with it. So if your box is new now, in a couple of years it will probably be out of the warranty anyway, but most boxes go for a lot longer than that though. Also, in the future you may be locked out of moving that lifetime sub to another (and newer) box because at this time they don't allow you to move a lifetime sub that's already been transferred once. Though that is subject to change, like everything else is. Something to think about perhaps.
Again not sure how "legitimate" TiVo would see the transaction.
Just my thoughts.

thanks for the response. I decided not to go ahead with the transaction....
