When I tried to set a recording Tivo refused because it was PREDICTING that I would not have enough disc space at that time. I know that I will have deleted enough programs by that time to have disc space available, but I was given no choice except to erase some current recordings.
This seems like a major software design flaw. Does anyone else agree?

No. You are saving too many programs as save until I delete.

And therein lies the problem. You know that by the time the new recording is scheduled that you will have made enough space for it. The problem is that your TiVo does not know that. All it knows is that given the current hard drive size, the file sizes of each program on the drive, and their scheduled delete dates (or lack thereof), that there is simply not enough room for the newly scheduled program.
It's sort of being almost max'ed out on your credit card, and asking the company to approve a purchase that will take you over your credit limit, because you know that later that day you will make a payment that will take the balance back below your credit limit again.

You didn't have to delete anything. All you had to do was change the Keep Until dates from Keep Until I Delete to one of the other options that would allow Tivo to recognize that that program will be erased by the time the new recording is scheduled.
