Hey everyone,

Just a curiousity question. I have a Tivo subscription on my Series 2 box. I'm just looking at options for playing shows recorded on it in the living room, to my TV in the bedroom. I know I can get a cheap desktop to connect to it and just use Tivo desktop. I also know that with another TiVo unit I need a subscription for it as well to play shows from downstairs. What I'm wondering, is I have a desktop in my office that I transfer a lot of my recordings to. If I had an unsubscribed tivo in th ebedroom can it transfer shows from the desktop to it and play them too or do you need a subscription for it to function at all?

You need a subscription to transfer via TivoDesktop or to use MRV.

With an unsubbed series 2 you can pause, rewind, etc live tv as well as watch any programs which are already recorded on it. That is pretty much all it can do.

If you don't want a second TiVo (it is handy for secondary recordings), you need to feed A/V from your TiVo to the other TV, and get a remote extender. I have my one TiVo distributed all over the house that way.

It's more when someone is watching TV in the living room and I'm in the bedroom. Bedroom is on the 3rd floor so kind of hard to run the wiring like that but could possibly be an option. I may just look at buying a cheap desktop and using it with the TV in the bedroom instead.
