Hi all

I have picked up a Tivo to just use as a spare unit if my main Tivo which is a good few years old now ever packed up

I powered it up today and everything seems fine except for a screen glitch every 30 seconds or so what happens is the whole screen just flashes of and back on again for a split second

I have tried plugging the scart lead into the AUX socket but still have the same problem

does anybody know what could be wrong

Sounds more like a motherboard problem than anything else to me. Was the TiVo described as "in perfect working order"?

Well I suppose I took a chance with it really I paid £20 for it at a car boot sale last Sunday but yes I was told that it was in full working order

never mind suppose I can salvage a few parts form the thing psu , remote etc..

pity really as it does have a lifetime sub too

If it was the motherboard would there be any chance of me replacing it ?

You can buy replacement boards from pacelink http://www.pacelink.co.uk/tivomain.htm

Going blank after 30 seconds sounds a bit like the teletext bug ?

Sony TV? Was your last tivo 255a ?

You can buy replacement boards from pacelink http://www.pacelink.co.uk/tivomain.htm£223? You can get a complete box with a lifetime sub from eBay for much less than that these days, and an unsubbed box for £30-£50.

And some people accuse *me* of being expensive.... ;)

Have to say I have not tried it on my tv that my main tivo is working on ( toshiba crt ) I have the 2nd tivo connected to a Samsung LCD screen

my current tivo is 255 ( I think ) and this tivo with the probs is also on 255

pity really as it does have a lifetime sub tooIf it has a lifetime then don't discard it! Get another (unsubbed) box from eBay and get TiVo CS to transfer the sub for you.

...which of course they can't currently actually do.

At least until they fix the on-going problem with all new subs
(see state of tivo in states (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=402249), trouble with accounts (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=392168))

There is a way of transferring subs without involving tivo CS though...

*cough* certain upgrade firms will fix/replace tivo motherboards and transfer subs for a fixed fee
much less than £223 ;)

There is a way of transferring subs without involving tivo CS though...I was trying not to mention that... ;) And of course, the original account holder would still be registered as the account holder so it's only really a valid (and legit) option if both boxes are owned by (and registered to) the same person.

No, not *some* people - just one :DReally? I was under the impression that "a certain person" had been authorised to speak for the entire TiVo owning population of the UK.... :D
