I tried scheduling a recording from the internet using DVR Scheduler, but the show did not show up on the To Do List and it never recorded. Does the DVR need to be connected to a phone line for the DVR Scheduler to work?

Phone line is not needed. A signal is sent to the receiver via the sat.
What software version does your receiver have?

DVR scheduler works with 6.4a, Did you choose the receiver and schedule must record? I have noticed that it does not always record local channels.

Did you get an email about it being scheduled? You will also get a message on the DVR about the scheduled recording. Also, at the time you schedule the recording you should see a message on the webpage stating that a confirming email will be sent.

I'm not sure what your question is.
I don't know what software version I have, but I did check the model # as explained on the DTV website and my D-Tivo supposedly is eligible.
I have noticed that it does not always record local channels.
I was not trying to record a local channel.

I got a confirmation email saying the recording was scheduled.

Software Version is under messages and settings>system information, it will not record if station changes programming or if you did not select must record or if your TiVo does not show space available. :)

Its software version 6.3e-01-2-381. But on the message I received from DirectTv, and the info on their website, it says to make sure that my D-Tivo is a "Series 2" which it is. They didn't mention anything about checking the software version.

You need software version 6.4a for DVR Scheduler to work.
DirecTV is assumming that all series 2 receivers have the prerequisite version.

Is your receiver connected to a phone line? IIRC That is required to get the software update on directivos.

I guess the answer then is "Yes", in your particular case will need to connect to a phone line to schedule a recording from the internet! (At least long enough to get the software update authorized and then you can disconnect it again.) :D

How does it operate? Is it really of great advantage? ThanksYes. It's very easy to use. You go to directv.com web page, sign on, bring up the schedule, click on the program you wish to record. If you have more than one DVR, it will ask which one you want to use with a "drop down" selection, and it will offer a drop down to prioritize the recording.
I have found it useful when I forgot to record a specific program and was at work or at a friend's house.

I have noticed that it does not always record local channels. You have to be carefull when choosing. Each channel with an HD option comes up twice on the listing. They are only differentiated by a pale "HD" next to each program title. If you choose the one which is not appropriate to your DVR, it will not record.
I know because it happened to me.

Well it was stated earlier that he didn't need the phone line to use the online scheduling which is true, however it is necessary to force the download of the updated software in order to be able to use online scheduling. So as you pointed out he just needs to hook it up to a phone long enough to update the software then he is good to go. :D

Well, I tired hooking it up to the phone line. It's the first time I've hooked it to a phone line since I moved into this house 10 months ago (the only phone jack is in a different room). I then tried to connect via the phone line, but I was never successful (I kept getting a "configuration error" on the Connecting step). I called D-TV, and they had me try a few different numbers and changed some of the phone settings but it was never successful. After about one hour, the guy said "we're going to need to exchange your box". Since that would mean the loss of Tivo, I said forget it.
Anyone know of anything else I can try to get a connection so I can download this software update?

I let my bedroom unit update to 6.4a last night to try and fix the SP problem. I scheduled a couple of recordings online today and neither worked. I got the confirmation e-mails and they looked OK. Am I missing a step?
When it does work, does the recording show up in the To Do List?
