Ok here is my problem.

I have a HR10-250 that is having OTA problems on the CBS local. OK here is my list of things I have done.

1. Live in Central Ky.
2. Have a HR10-250 that has instantcake 3.5 on it.(newly installed yesterday)
3. I have remounted my antenna higher on the roof
4. Get 90% and above on all other locals.
5. Get 90% and above on another HD receiver on CBS local.
6. If I open the unit up and run my coaxial cable directly into the ant in ports of the unit I get 78% on CBS. When I split the signal with a splitter(bypassing the units splitter the signal goes crazy!!!!!!!!!!! Drops to the 50s and up and down from 0 to 50 0 to 50. If I disconnect one or the other the signal goes back up to the 70s. So I put a in-line amp and no help. I did help the other locals and gave them 5% more but nothing on the CBS locals? Any ideal what is going on? Any ideal what will fix this? I would love to have my CBS HD for the up coming football season since I can not get HD locals yet from DTV. Thanks for all your help!!!!

Higher is sometimes better for reception, but not always. Do you have line of sight?

The swing from 0-50 is a classic indication of either multipath or reflection on the input. The HR10 is notorious for having poor multipath rejection, which might explain why other receivers show it as OK (the HR2x would probably have less problem, for instance). You should try an external splitter (no need to connect other cables) or an attenuator just to see if the level is actually too high, as the HR10 is also sensitive to that.

The internal wiring? Where to begin? There are threads in the last couple years that indicate possible problems with that arrangement. The first thing you should do is exercise the RCA connectors, which sometimes work loose in shipment. You can also connect direct, but you may need attenuation too.

It may also just me a matter of either moving the antenna horizontally to find a better location (there are nodes of constructive and destructive interference for each channel that can make one location good and another bad), or getting an antenna that can receive that channel better (higher directionality). The Channel Master 4228 is the best antenna out there, as long as you don't have any DT channels between 2-6 (physical, not virtual). It might also help to go to www.antennaweb.org.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I have total direct line of site. I am on a hill so that should not be a problem. I have tried redirection and 70s on local CBS is the best. (with one connected) This was not a problem for the first 2 years of the receiver. It started on the 27-2 first,(cbs hd local 2) now it has moved to the 27-1 station.(cbs hd local 1) It first started on 27-1 as I could not use the fast forward on the first setting. it would freeze if I use the first ff setting. If I went to the >> or the >>> fast forwarding it worked fine. I have disconnect the RCA plugs and wired them directly thinking it was a bad RCA cable. IF one is connect CBS local is fine. If I connect the second cable BOOM!!! Up and down up and down????? So is it time for a new receiver? I got the HD receiver from DTV last year that lets me pick up MPEG4 but no Ant. inputs? Do they have a new HD receiver that picks up MPEG4 and Ant inputs? Thanks again for all the help!

KjacksDid You mean "instant cake 3.1.5f"?

I'm going to assume that, since there is no 3.5 release for the HR10-250. If so (although not everyone agrees with me) there is a known issue with 3.1.5f specifically WRT CBS OTA.

Does your receiver reboot spontaneously if you leave it tuned to the CBS station?

What was running on the box before you installed your instantcaked drive? Did it have any problems with your CBS local?

sorry you are correct I miss read it. It is 3.1.5! I was running Instant that had been updated to 6.X. I went back and bought the 3.1.5 because of this reason.

The HR10-250 was working great,(on 3.1.5) when they went to the 6.x update this is what happened: I had started an HD program on Friday night(NCIS to be exact) watch half of it and it was fine. Sat morning during the night they updated to 6.x and all of my CBS OTA HD programing went bad. The NCIS that I had watch half of was bad. It became all pix elated. They where all unwatchable. Since then is when my CBS started acting up. I KNOW!!!!! FOR A FACT!!!!! that the NCIS was fine before the update and 6 hours later when I wanted to finish watching it it was bad bad bad!

So to answer your question no the unit does not restart itself. It just has a weak signal on CBS OTA signal when I connect the second coax.

Thanks for listening!
