So I just got an HD tv and now need to upgrade my old DirecTV Tivo DVR to something HD capable. I called DirecTV to upgrade and they wanted to retain me saying they would give me an HD DVR free for 12 months, $10 for 12 months, and HBO/Starz free for 3 months, but I wouldn't get installed until the end of September.

Time Warner has a thing where I can combine my high-speed internet and cable for $90. Adding the DVR costs $10.

As happy as I am with DTV, I am really considering switching. Is there anything wrong with TWC that I should know about?

Thanks in advance!

Since the cable experience varies from city to city (even block to block) it would help to list your location so that those with relevant experience can chime in.

Good point! I am in San Antonio, TX. I went ahead and made the switch.

I've been with DirecTV for many years (seven maybe?). With Time Warner, my rate actually went down by $5 and TWC gave me two years of Showtime and Movie Channel for free! I am locked for this crap two year commitment, but the rate is locked as well.

I may miss Tivo, but if I stayed with DirecTV, I would have lost it as well.

Other experiences still sought since I have sixty days to cancel.

Also, installation was $10 and they bumped me to the higher RoadRunner tier (15mb?).

With TW, if you miss your TiVo the solution is right here (https://www3.tivo.com/store/home.do). Of course, the main caveat is that TW has adopted SDV in many markets which renders some channels unavailable to TiVo at least until a tuning resolver becomes available.
