View Full Version : guide problems
Hi
I have just got a series 1 tivo without subscription I tried to update guide however I think the tivo has been setup to obtain guide via wireless network card via the internet as it keeps saying connection failed.I think I may have to connect to pc do I need a boot disc if so where do I obtain.I do intend to subscribe but need to solve the above problem first.
Hope someone can help.

But without a subsciption you won't get any guide data anyway.
Thanks for the reply
I didn't realise you had to subscribe for the guide however problem is tivo just hangs saying connection failed. is it possible to get back to the menu and access live tv for the time being

Once started - the only way out of GS is for it to finish.

One way to force it to make calls via the phone line is to remove the wireless card but as has already been pointed out you won't be able to get the guide data without a subscription.
It seems you're saying that you can't even see live tv - I wasn't aware that a failed call would stop that (but it might, I just wasn't aware it would!)

Sounds to me like the modem is dying. First, check in the 'Connection Settings' that there is no dialling prefix. This can upset a few phone providers, although most don't worry. If it is the modem there are ways of connecting an external modem via the serial port on the back, but permanently hanging in the 'Powering Up' screen can be caused by several problems.

Hanging at "welcome, powering up" normally means that the drive is knackered. Modem problems can cause it to hang at "almost there...".
Have you checked the IDE cable connections to the drive?
