Hey guys, Please please please dont crush me cause i know this is n00b type stuff here.

I had comcast HD for years and it synced fine with my Series 2. We just split the signal out of the wall and ran one cable to the HD receiver and the other to my TiVo. I didnt get HD on the TiVo obviously but that was ok with me.

Well I just moved and for the first time in my life got DirecTV with an HD receiver. I would like to hook up my S2 just so i have it accessible on another one of my TV's inputs, just in case I'd like to record something.

But I'm pretty sure I can't split out of the wall prior to running it to the receiver. Ive done some looking around at other threads and this seems to be the case. From what I have learned it might be possible to split AFTER the receiver but since I run HDMI out of it and my S2 has no HDMI in I dont know if there is anything there that could be split in the first place.

Simple question: how do i get my TiVo to work?

I feel lame for asking since it seems so easy but I am stumped.

Thanks guys,

Does the receiver have an S-Video out? Use that along with analog audio.

Get the Tivo an SD Satellite receiver and run another coax drop from the dish to it. The TiVo will control via IR or serial.

If that isn't doable because of coax run issues, then you can have the TiVo control the HD receiver and take inputs from its SD output connections. Of course you won't be able to use it to watch one thing live while the TiVo is recording off it on another channel. In this setup, the TiVo always controls the receiver, even when you are watching its HD output. That can be confusing since you won't see any TiVo UI on that TV input.

Finally, you can get a DirecTV DVR in place of your existing TiVo and the HD satellite receiver. It won't be a TiVo, but many people like them anyway.

The receiver does have s-video (as well as analog video) out and I plugged that in from the receiver to the TiVo. However there is still no way to use the TiVo as it is on a separate input from the DirecTV on my TV. Besides, no audio or video shows up when I connect the two devices anyway.

Thanks for the help but any other thoughts would be just awesome!

Back to basics.
Connect the DirecTV receiver outputs to the TiVo.
Then the TiVo outputs connect to the TV.
Run guided setup on the TiVo to select the correct inputs.
Make sure you select the TV input that has the TiVo connected.

The above all assumes that you have a standalone DirecTV receiver and a standalone TiVo.

Thank you Jim. This, indeed, solved it. I appreciate you taking the time to help me!
