View Full Version : Should toast 8 be able to see tivo HD

I recently received my TiVo HD.

After several reboots and such, it finally knows it's name, and can see/be seen by the other tivos in the house.

Problem is that my mac can't see the tivo from the toast tivo transfer program.

I have toast 8-- should it be able to see the tivo, or do I need 9? Note that going to https://ipaddr I am able to get to the tivo-- so it appears to be good to go from that respect (and it did already download the new service update).

My tivo transfer program shows up as 1.1.1 in the about dialog.

Thanks,

-jamie

TiVo Transfer uses the Bonjour discovery protocol to locate the TiVo. Some routers (most notably Linksys) are configured by default to block this via their multicast setting.

You might want to try using Bonjour Browser from www.tildesoft.com to see if the TiVo is visible or not (it will appear in a few Bonjour groups)

Also, the TiVo uses Bonjour to "see" your Macintosh when using Music and Photos with TiVo Desktop for Mac OSX.

Interesting, it isn't found-- but the other two are.

I have no linksys. I will try cycling the options on tivo.com to see if the tivo is just confused.

Thanks. In the meantime, any other ideas?

Go to the Now Playing List, press zero followed by a Thumbs Down. The Advanced Troubleshooting screen will appear and it will say if transfers are enabled or not at the top.

If transfers aren't enabled, go to www.tivo.com/mma and enable them for this box. Then have it connect to the TiVo Service. It should change after it completes the processing and a few minutes have gone by.

They are enabled, and that tivo shows a,a,a for TivoToGo, the same as the others. I am going to disable it on tivo, force downloads, then re-enable it.

As far as the network setup  you might not really want to know...
Whole house goes through a 24port 100mb (netgear) switch, which uplink to a netgear vpn spi firewall. There are various dumb switches throughout the house as well.

I will post updates if I ever get back to the tivo

A couple of quick forced tivo connects, a couple of reboots (two on the tivo & one on the mac), and now it works.

Thanks...
