Possible Football/Convention Problems on Thursday....

Football on Thursday night. NBC has a game (regional?) and many regions have their local team on (i.e., Pats/Giants). In addition, convention coverage is on, with Thursday night being when Obama accepts the nomination at the DNC. Will a network stay with a game if the game runs long? Not sure.

This would be a perfect time for a network to utilize sub-channels.

Isn't there a Monday night game during the RNC?

Not sure why we need subchannels, can't anyone watch on PBS or another nonfootball channel?

Well, yes. But the issue, I think, is if a network that is airing a football game, will they cut over to convention coverage, even if the game is going long and is still being played at 10pm EST.

Again, it's pre-season, but I would still be pissed if it actually is a good game that is going down to the wire and all of a sudden on a final sudden-death drive.........blip......."Welcome to Thursday night coverage of the DNC......"

There is a Thursday night game on NBC during the RNC -- the first game of the regular season.

After some intense negotiations earlier this year, the NFL moved that game's start time an hour earlier -- 7:00 Eastern instead of 8:00 Eastern -- so that it will end well before McCain's acceptance speech, or so the Republicans hope. :D

Because it's a regular-season game, NBC is presumably obligated to stick with the game no matter how long it runs -- everyone having learned their lesson from the "Heidi" situation 40 years ago -- but I'm sure they'll make frequent mentions of the convention coverage on MSNBC.

Interrupting either convention on Monday would be no loss but Thursday?

I think the big three networks still feel an obligation to carry big news events even though there are plenty of basic cable channels carrying it. For one thing there are OTA folks who only get the networks.

Jeopardy (already added I think a half hour -- it's reruns so I don't care TOO much if I miss it, but the great Jeopardy recap site filled me in on the Final Jeopardy I missed the other day)
Big Brother -- padded half an hour
Moment of truth -- padded half an hour
