I have a question around set up of HR21 with additonal DVR connected to the same TV as I explore migration to HD.

My confusion lies around the diplexing with HR21. I did try to search on this topic and clearly multiple DVRs are workable but perhaps I missed information related to the amount of cable runs necessary or if diplexing is possible.

My plan is to allow kids to record/watch on HDVR2 so they don't consume the HD space of the HR21 and leave that for us.

I currently have two lines in for the HDVR2 and had hoped to diplex one (or both..depending on the multiswitch) of the lines so I could retain the dual tuner functionality on both DVRs

Is this possible or is an additonal cable run required to accomplish this?

Diplexing is combining different frequencies onto the same cable. An example would be mixing OTA antenna signals along with satellite.

Your situation requires 2 more runs of cable from the dish or multiswitch. I have an HR20-100, HR10-250 and a GXCEBOT all in the same room connected to the same TV. I have 6 runs of cable from the multiswitch to the room to feed all 6 tuners. I also have a 7th run of cable to carry OTA for my HR10.

You might look at the SWM solution, but I don't know if it will work with the HDVR2.

The SWM won't work with the HDVR2, except for its legacy ports. So even with the SWM, the OP would need three lines to the TV area to service the HDVR2 (2 legacy lines) and the HR21 (1 SWM line). If he doesn't need more than four lines, then it would be less expensive to just run two more lines to the TV area.
