I just got a letter in the mail from Time Warner Cable in Raleigh that they are moving many existing "lesser-viewed" channels to SDV starting on or around 9/13/08 in groups of approximately 20 channels. Here is the channel list:

Personally, that doesn't look too bad to me. Of the few shows I do Tivo on these channels, I'll just set up Season Passes on one of my Series 2s and then transfer them when needed.

As a side note, they also said they expect to be able to offer Tuning Adapters later this year and that there would be NO CHARGE for those!

Edited to Update that these new channels are also SDV and unavailable:

260 Discovery Channel HD
261 Animal Planet HD
262 Planet Green HD
263 ABC Family HD
264 Disney HD
268 MLB Network HD

We likely won't get these new channels being added on 2/15/09:

Sci-Fi HD - Channel 267

That seems very fair. The only one of those channels I would miss is BBC America.

I just got the same letter. I have to say, I have no complaints. I don't think I've ever watched any of those channels except BBC America, and until Torchwood comes back from hiatus I won't care about that one either.

Assuming they stick to the "no additional charge" for the tuning adapter, I'd say TWC is doing it right. And I'm all for SDV if it means getting more HD channels down the road!

I got it too. Doesnt impact my viewing habits much. American Life Channel is the only casualty. No more Combat, 12 O'Clock High. Looks like somebody is thinking clearly at TWC Cary..... for now....

Just a quick update on this for those in the Raleigh market. TWC just recently added the Big Ten Network (SD and HD) and those appear to be deployed with SDV. I emailed support and a tech said they were SDV but I don't completely trust that. Can anyone get these channels on the Series 3 or THD? I cannot.

On a whim, I called to ask when the Tuning Adapter would be available and, of course, they had no idea.

As for the SD channels they were planning on moving to SDV, as of yesterday (knock on wood), the Digital Sports and Games tier is still coming through on my S3. It also appears the Digital Variety tier is still tunable.

Very very soon. Head end software is installed and operational. Rumor is that some will get a letter from TWC Thursday or Friday with instructions on how to get a TA. Watch your mailbox....

I talked to a rep today that indicated that the preorder form is now working. Apparently the two times I filled it out before Christmas didn't count.

Here's the link (FWIW):

That link is not what you want.... check out the TWC Carolinas thread for the actual Raleigh order link.
