View Full Version : Trying to get TIVO desktop to work on a Mac (ATTN: Dennis Wilkenson...:-)

Hello everyone,

I have been sent here by Bob Bedelman who has been gracious enough to try and help me figure out why my TIVO cannot properly see my photos and music on my computer. Unfortunately we have not been successful, perhaps someone here can help me achieve my goal of getting TIVO desktop to actually work (Bob recommended getting a hold of Dennis Wilkenson, so Dennis if you see this maybe you could help me out?)...:-)

Here is where I am at:

-I am running Mac OS10.5.4 on a MacIntel quad 2.8 machine.

-I have the latest TIVO desktop (1.9.4). This is set to on (or "start") and publish all music and photos is enabled.

-My router (NetGear WNR854T) shows the TIVO's MAC adresse as being connected and no filtering/blocking is activated.

-TIVO shows a connection to the network and can update itself successfully.

-Bonjour Browser shows "local -6":
tivo-music._tcp -1
tivo-photos._tcp -1
tivo-videos._tcp -1
tivo-videos._tcp -1
_ttp45daemon._tcp. -1
HTTP (_http._tcp.) -1 (this is coming from the TIVO and is shown as DVR-1488 in the triangle drop down menu).

-I have tried adding the IP adresse of both my computer (192.168.1.2) and router (192.168.1.1) manually to the TIVO (192.168.1.5) and it just says no server was found on that network.

-I have rebooted the router and the TIVO several times, still no luck.

I am really stumped here and just want to get this to work.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

I hope everyone is well,

~Shea

Have you added Mac OS X firewall exceptions for the TCP ports that Tivo Desktop listens on for connections from your Tivo? If not, when your Tivo tries to access your Mac, it won't ever receive an answer.

Hello Rdian06,

Thank you for your response. As far as I know the firewall settings are not enabled by me, is this an automatic thing that OSX does on it's own?. As it stands now, my firewall setting in the security preference panel is set to "allow all incoming connections"...

Can you explain how to add exceptions for the necessary ports? I understand the concept, but if I do need to manually add them, then I don't know where to find the actual port numbers that TIVO needs to see.

Thank you for your time, hopefully you can help me figure this out.

Good night,

~Shea

If it's allowing all incoming connections, then no exceptions are needed.

Maybe you should try pyTivo instead of Tivo Desktop.
