Okay. I have a lifetime TivoHD with a single Hitachi 1TB drive installed. As soon as the cable cards were set up, I yanked the OEM drive and installed the 1TB. No problems for almost a year until power was cut off by the power co. to repair some lines along our street. Then the TivoHD would hang at the "Just a few more minutes" screen. I tried rebooting. Rebooting without the cable cards in. Rebooting with the coax disconnected.

I tried re-installing the OEM drive with no luck. After a little research and posting here, I ordered a new PSU. When it arrived I swapped in the new one, reinstalled the 1TB and fired it up. Nothing. I tried the OEM drive. Nothing. FYI, I've tried kickstarting each drive. Nothing.

Anybody have any ideas?

I had a series 2 that did a similar thing (still does). Sometimes it never comes on, sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes it takes 1 hour. Was the unit plugged into a surge protector or UPS? If the OEM drive doesn't work than I'd say it's safe that it's something with the MB or power supply.

This is probably the case. So I spent 30 minutes fruitless minutes on the phone with Tivo Tech support. Despite the fact that it appears they do it all the time for people here, Tivo will not RMA my THD for lifetime transfer to a refurb unit. Apparently I'm the only person they've ever dealt with who has replaced the factory HD with a bigger one. I'm so fecking mad right now.

Changing out the stock drive internally voids the warranty. Did you not read your TOS?

Changing out the stock drive internally voids the warranty. Did you not read your TOS? Of course I know this is the technical position. But I seem to recall people on here sending in lifetime units formerly expanded and Tivo being nice enough to switch the lifetime to a new refurb. Nevermind that I have 4 Tivos and have been a user since 2001 and just got this unit less than year ago.

I always heard to keep the OEM drive just in case you need warranty work. Guess I know why now.

I still have it. I told them I would send it back just as it came to me. The CSR said that they knew I had put it in a non-OEM drive and would not do an exchange.

As soon as you change out the drive and it connects to TiVo, they know you opened it up because they can see that the internal hard drive has more capacity or more recording hours. If they want to be sticklers they can refuse warranty repairs..
I guess they are starting to do this more often. With me, when the TiVoHD first came out they said they would charge me $150 to replace a day old TiVoHD. OF course I said no and just returned it to Circuit City for an exchange. After putting the original drive back in. But with me nothing was ever wrong with anything. They just wouldn't troubleshoot the problem the TiVoHD had with analog channels and sending out a mono signal. they wouldn't trouble shoot it unless the box had never been opened. So I got a new one, it still had the problem, i switched to FIOS, and since they were all digital the problem went away. Although I guess they still don't have that problem with the audio form analog channels.

maybe http://www.weaknees.com/ can fix it. I guess i wont go lifetime on my tivo hd since i put in a 750 gig drive.

Did you use volt meter to see if your hard drive is getting power? if theres no power to the hard drive find out where the power stops at and fix it.

Just wanted to report that my "problem" has been resolved to a great deal of satisfaction on my part. Tivo has the best customer service around.
