Hi all. I'm helping my friends with their setup. They have upgraded to the HR21, and moved their HR10-250 to a weekend house. Prior to the move, they did not have a Tivo-based unit.

What they would like is the ability to watch TV using the TV's own speakers, except when they listen to the XM channels. Previously, they had coax out of their old DirecTV receiver into an audio receiver and thus were able to accomplish this. As we know, the HR10-250 has no coax out. What would be the simplest way to allow them to send audio from the XM channels out through their stereo speakers when the listen to the music channels while still letting them use their TV's speakers for all other viewing?

Does the TV have an Aux or Line input? If so, then just connect the yellow, red and white outputs on the HR10 to them.

I'm going to make the assumption that they used to have the yellow, red and white going to their TV while the coax was going to their audio receiver. In that case, still hook the TV up the same way, like Jim said, but if their audio receiver has optical audio input, then take that from the HR10.

If you do only as Jim says because of a lack of an optical input on the receiver, then the TV will need to have red and white audio outs so that you can then run to the receiver. In both cases, only turn on the receiver when listening to XM obviously.

Easy solution: 2 RCA Y-splitters. Split the audio outputs for the TV and the Stereo. Cost you less than $10.

Toslink would be the cleanest solution (only one wire). I'll confirm that their receiver has a digital audio input (it's a 5 year old low end Denon so I'll bet it does). Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem. And I agree that would be best if they have it, and I also would assume that a 5yo Denon would have it.
