I have reluctantly replaced 5 Directv-Tivo HD recorders with DirecTV DVR units. I assumed I could power up the old Tivo units after they were removed from the system and download the recorded programs. For some reason I can only get one unit to power up. The other units simply stay at the "Welcome. Powering Up" screen. Is there some secret I need to know? Thanks.

Nope - if it's stuck there, there is a hardware failure.

Wow! Four of your five Tivos are stuck at "Welcome Power Up"? That typically means the hard drive has died. But I'm amazed that you would FOUR fail at the same time.

Were those Tivo's modified? Without some special modified software, there's no way to "download" the recordings anyway.

Actually, there is.

yeah, but they'll be encrypted and therefor worthless, and that still takes "special" software to be able to do so. If you're referring to analog transfer to dvd or vhs, I ask "why bother?"
