Thanks to everyone on this forum who has taken the time to report and explain the facts. The FAQ is especially useful. I am a long time ReplayTV user. I have always loved my Sonic Blue but I want digital HD for my Plasma. So I swtiched to Comcast's HD DVR.

The switch has been a real let down, to say the least. So I've decided to remove the Comcast SI box and get a Tivo HD. I purchased one through the refurb program. I'll let you know how that goes. (fingers crossed). I also purchased a WD HD for an internal upgrade.

The features that ReplayTV has that I've come to miss are many when you compare the Comcast box. I wonder if Tivo has all of the Replays capability.

Search guide by text entry field, keywords, with title, director and so on. It searches out through the guide for the entire data base. Returning all programs with those keywords. If I find a program I want, then I can "Find all Shows" of this program in the database to help find the espisode. Does Tivo have this?

SI Comcast has none of this. Only the ability to manually scroll through the guide page by page looking for programs. You can sort the guide, but that's it.

The biggest thing I miss is Replay's ability to remember your place. If you stop a program while viewing. Then return minutes later, days or even weeks and it picks up right where you left off. It remembers this info for any recorded program in the list. Does Tivo have this?

SI Comcast has a timebar with no time markings. If you watch 70 minutes of a 2 hour show, then switch out to another recording, good luck FFing through the entire program to find where you left off. This is so annoying once you have it the other way.

Well Replay has the commercial advance. Nuff said on that.

I read here about codes you can use to modify Tivo. Where do I find a list for the Series 3 DVR's?

Again thanks for those that took the time to report.

Yes, or something very similar.

The only two codes I know of is "Select - Play - Select - 3 - 0 - Select'' which turns the 'skip to tick' button into a 30 sec skip button.

and

"Select - Play - Select - 9 - Select'' which puts a clock onscreen.

You can search by title, programs currently in the guide, progressively (as you enter letters, the list narrows down).

You can set up Wishlist searches, which will search those other parameters, and record them as they happen, or at least allow you to list potential recordings.

Yes, with TiVo, you can exit out of viewing a program, and so long as nobody else watches it, and it doesn't get deleted, you can come back to where you stopped, at any time (except the last few minutes of a recording, it will ask you if you want to delete or keep it, and if you keep it, when you come back it will be at the beginning).

TiVo's timebar has ticks, usually at 15 minutes, but it could be 30 minutes or more on longer recordings. You can skip back and forth on those ticks (press << or >>, then ->| to skip to the ticks.

TiVo has a backdoor 30 second skip. You can activate that by playing a recording, and pressing Select>Pay>Select>3>0>Select, ten you will hear 3 chimes if successful. You the press the ->| to skip 30 seconds. The "30" in the code toggles that function; it is not a variable for the skip time, which is fixed to 30 seconds.
Search "TiVo Backdoor codes" for others. Most listed need a backdoor code entered (unknown since 4.0), but some (such as the SPS codes) will work with the lates software.

At least it has that. Aside from commercials, sometimes you just want to jump a minute or two past something.

To bad they don't make it variable.

Thanks for your answers. I feel better now.

Just so you know Comcast box lets you search by title.
