View Full Version : Is dead Toshiba SD-H400 worth anything?

I have a Toshiba SD-H400 that died on me a couple years ago. Since then it's been sitting in its box. I'm pretty sure that the problem is with the disk drive, so I imagine that a replacement drive from Weaknees or elsewhere would bring it back to life. The thing is, it isn't worth it to me; I replaced it with a dual tuner unit back when it was starting to fail.

My question isn't whether I can get any money out of the unit. The question is whether anyone else is likely to be interested in it for free (or the cost of shipping). I thought I would check here first for the likelihood of interest and then maybe I'll try Craigslist or Freecycle. If everyone agrees that it is completely worthless, then I'll just send it to the landfill, which is really what I am hoping to avoid.

Since it doesn't boot, that decreases the value ;)

Still, you might be able to get something for it on ebay. It's worth trying.

I am SO tempted, but already having other DVRs with DVD recorders in them...that DO allow editing out commercials...I gotta say no.

There is someone in another thread who's having problems with a Pioneer unit, tho'. He might be interested...

That model is a DVD player only, not recorder.

On the plus side, I think, you can play your DVDs with the TiVo menu, plus is the older version of the Series 2 platform that can be hacked without a PROM mod.

Does the dvd player still work? If so, I would be happy to take it off your hands.

As is, nothing works, but I think that is because even the DVD player requires that the drive boot. Physically, I think everything was working. My best guess is that it is a hard drive problem and nothing more, but of course I can't promise anything. I'll contact you off list.

If the first deals fall through, let me know.

Shipping would be to Plainfield, IL 60544.

Thanks,

I already have a Toshiba SD-H400 with a working hard drive, but it has a power supply that died, but I'll gladly take this one and pull the hard drive out of my other one, and use it for spare parts. Let me know how much you want for it. I'll gladly take it. Thank-you!

Is this unit still around? I think my H400's power supply just went out last night. I cannot find a single retailer that is selling a new DVR with any kind of on screen guide...what the heck is up with that?

I sold and shipped this unit to djafoster, who was the first to respond. He was mostly interested in the DVD drive, so it is possible that other parts might still be available from him.
