Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread for this, but I noticed today that the Series 3's are back up on Tivo's website, not sure what to make of it, maybe they have fixed all the bugs?

The HD stores data at 3.52 GB/hr vs. the Series 3 at 4.81 GB/hr; a 37% increase. Will this make a visible difference in video quality?
If so, I will probably order one today.

Not quite sure where you are getting that. The TivoHD and S3 store digital data exactly as it comes in. It doesn't change it in any form.
There is some slight difference between the S3 and TivoHD with regards to encoding analog stuff, but who really cares since it ain't HD? :p

Since all digital content is recorded as-received, capacity will depend on the compression of the source material.

greg_burns, it came from the same reference you provided and refers to HD. See table titled "What does that mean for video quality? How does in compare in GB/hour, as an indication of bitrate?" a little more than half way down the page.

That table lists out Best, High, Medium & Basic which are the Recording Quality options for analog. They have no effect on digital recordings. See below:
*Changing the Recording Quality has no effect on recordings from either standard or high definition digital channels. TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD DVRs record digital channels (Digital and HD) in their native format. Since recording bitrates are variable, and are largely controlled by the cable provider, the amount of space any given recording will take up can vary greatly.

oh I see so in other words Tivo wants to unload all the units that were returned because people probably had problems with them.
