View Full Version : Tivo Records Wrong Channel 75% of the Time

Hello,
My tivo has recently started recording almost all the wrong shows at the correct time and supposed right channel they were supposed to. Most of the time comedy central is recorded channel 63 when channel 42,06 or any other channel is supposed to be recording. I have tried contacting tivo support and they couldn't help me. The IR blasters are positioned right over the sensors. Please can anybody help me! I missed the olympics while I was at work and didnt get to see Michael Phelps swim...no good.

Try unplugging the TiVo and leaving it that way for a minute or two.

Plug it back in and let it do its thing.

This is called "rebooting" and can fix all sorts of weird little problems.

You might also tell us what type of box you have the IR blasters working with, and what type of TV service you have (digital OTA, satellite, or cable).

Are the IR sensors shielded from room reflection? You can have a situation where the IR signal can reflect off a wall and eseentially two or more signals will hit the sensor essentially yielding it unreliable.

Try putting a piece of black electrical tape over the IR blaster and the receiver sensor.
Make it large enough that light can't sneak in from the side.

I had the same problem with Time Warner after they upgraded the software on our Scientific Atlanta Explorer box. Now my inlaws are having the same problem after they got a cable box. Changing the channel with the Tivo remote always worked fine but it would never change the channel correctly for suggestions and season passes.

Some people have had luck moving their recordings to one minute before the hour. It seems some processing happens on the hour in the new SW and confuzels the IR reading routine in the SA box. YMMV
