I'm having an issue with the color on my TV. I have a TiVo series 2dt connected with coaxial cables and a TiVo wireless adapter. I get vertical bands of alternating color. TiVo menues and screens are in the correct colors. I've replaced coax cables, hooked up with composite cables, and tried disconnecting the wireless adapter. If I hook the TV directly to the incoming cable, bypassing the TiVo the color is fine. I reset the TiVo and the color was correct for about 2 or 3 minutes then it goes out again. Anything else that I should try? Should I send the unit out to be repaired?, if so where? Or should I just break down and replace it? The unit is about 2 years old and I have another year left on my subscription.

Thank You
Keith

If the menus are fine when viewed that would indicate the problem is with the signal or the tuner in the TiVo. Sinceit works OK when you connect to the TV directly, that eliminates the source signal as the problem. Is it the same for both tuners? If so, the problem is not likely the tuner, since it would indicate that both tuners have failed. By process of elimination I would suggest it is one of two things.

1) The signal coming in is weak, but the tuner on your TV processes it OK, but the TiVo tuners do not. This is a low probability, but if you have any splitters on the coax line try connecting the cable directly into the TiVo without the splitters to see if that helps.

2)The most likely problem is a failure with the internal splitter which splits the signal for the two tuners within the TiVo box.

I would suggest calling TiVo Customer Service and see what they can do for you.

"...the tuner on your TV processes it OK, but the TiVo tuners do not. This is a low probability..."

TiVos have indeed, in the past, been known for having weak or "picky" tuners. This is by no means a low probability. It may be EXACTLY what's wrong.

It may be EXACTLY what's wrong.Yes, and there's even a good reason - A S2DT has an internal splitter to feed the signal to the two internal tuners. A 2-way splitter reduces the power available at each tuner by at least half (aka 3db), so the signal at the input of each of the S2DT's tuners is at least 3db less than the signal that would be available at the TV's input when the TiVo is bypassed.

Try a video amplifier as far upstream as possible. If you have cable, try getting the cable company to check your signal levels.

I was rightfully corrected on my assigning a "low probability" to the problem being the tivo tuner capability. It very well could be the decreased signal strength due to the internal splitter (which I think is actually -3.5 dB). The signal amplifier should be tried before getting tivo cs involved. I actually got Comcast to install a 10 dB amp at the cable source in my home (after first splitting off the leg to the modem) and it solved reception problems for me.

I'm still having the same problem with ONE channel on my analog cable lineup that I've had pretty much from the start...both TiVos simply will NOT tune that channel.

Thankfully it's only VH1.

Any chance the channel number corresponds to an OTA channel number that may be interfering via signal ingress.
