In the last few weeks, every time i try to convert a .Tivo to .MP4, my computer shuts down about 5-10 minutes into the process. This is totally repeatable, and was NOT repaired by upgrading to Tivo Dekstop Plus 2.6.2.....
Does anyone have any ideas of things i can do??

Crashes under load are usually related to failing memory or a weak power supply (unless they occur when accessing the same file each time, then it could be a bad sector on your hard drive). You can test the former with an app called MemTest86+. Download, burn to a CD, and boot. Make sure you let it run at least 24 hours.

Everything ELSE on that computer works. It might be old, but it has done the job for a while. So i dont think it's a memory problem.....unless it's just failing all together, but like i said, everything else works without problem except the tivo converter!

Not all tasks utilize the hardware in your system the same way, nor do all programs that perform similar tasks. Just because it is only one program that crashes your box doesn't mean that it isn't a hardware issue.

CPU overheating? Have you checked the fan? Dusted out the inside of the computer box?
I had a CPU keep hanging under load on a rack-mounted 1U system, turned out the power pins on the motherboard for the CPU fan had failed. No fan == overtemp CPU shutdown.
