View Full Version : Updating TiVo software...

hello all!
I just received my HD TiVo today and am having trouble getting it to update to the latest software...It updated once, i believe, but now when i click on connect to TiVo service, it goes through preparing and loading, in like 10 seconds...and with the software version I'm stuck with now, I'm unable to access any broadband features at all...I'm stuck on version 8.1.7c...And it S-U-C-K-S big time! What should i do? I've called customer "support" and all they said was "It will have to get the software updates during the night"...Is this true? Help me! Please! Somebody!:confused:

Patience. You should have the latest software and all the features within a few days, a week at the very most.

I just had a S2DT replaced and the replacement came with 7.something so the capability was even more crippled than yours.

The software will download (eventually) whenever the TiVo connects but they still have a bias toward connecting in the middle of the night (originally they only connected via telephone). But the reboot to actually install the new software happens at 2 AM.

There's a way to tell whether it has downloaded an update that is not yet installed.

From the screen where you connect to the service, check to see what the status of your previous connection was. If it says "Succeeded" then you don't have an update to install and you need to keep waiting; if it says "Pending Restart" then it has downloaded an update and is waiting for installation:

If you don't manually restart the TiVo HD, it will automatically install the software update at 2 AM. Otherwise, you can restart the machine manually and get your software updated.

I can't tell you when to expect the machine to actually download an update, of course, but I do wish you luck.
