View Full Version : Tivo and Time Capsule Compatability?

have tried unsuccessfully to connect my Tivo DVR to the wireless network I set up with Time Capsule. The last error message I got from the Tivo was "No DHCP server. A DHCP server could not be located on the network. (N02)".
After calling Tivo support and going through the motions with them, (mostly involving unplugging the tivo, adapter, etc) they finally said that the Tivo is not compatible with Time capsule Models that begin with the letter A (e.g. Model Number Axxxxxx).
My questions are: -
A) I am not sure what I have to do at this point to have the Tivo connect to my wireless network. Has anyone had similar problems and if so, what was your solution?
b)Is what the Tivo rep in fact true? If so, is there any way to rectify this?
Thanks,

I use my TiVo boxes with an Airport Extreme and I cannot see how a TimeCapsule would be all that different.
Are you using any wireless network security? This would include encryption (such as WEP or WPA) as well as having entries in the "Access List"?
If you're using WPA, this only works if you have a TiVo Wireless Adapter and at least version 8.1 of the TiVo Software running on your box. WPA passwords are more compatible if they are exactly 13 characters/digits/symbols in length
If you're using WEP, you'll need to get the hexadecimal (network equvalent) password from your TimeCapsule. This option to get it is on the Base Station menu when you use the Airport Utility (and you've opened your TimeCapsule's configuration)
If you have any entries on the Access List of the TimeCapsule, you'll need to add the MAC address of the wireless adapter you're using on the TiVo to the list. The MAC address appears on the Network and Phone Settings screen on the TiVo. If your Access List is empty -- leave it that way.
Finally, the TiVo can cache some of the wireless network information. To get it to "forget", do not select the network from the wireless network list. Instead use the Enter Network Name button and key in the name of your wireless network (and upper/lower case does make a difference)

I'm curious about this last part...according to what I've read, the SSID (which is what the network name represents) is in fact case sensitive. Are you certain it's not case sensitive in this situation?

As I said, upper/lower case does make a difference which is another way of saying that it is case sensitive.

Well slap me silly...I read it more than once and still misread it. Sorry. :o
