I've had a series 1 UK Tivo for about 6 years now, and about 18 months ago I upgraded the hard drives, otherwise it's a standard UK Tivo. It's done sterling service and the kids love it. In February this year, I went on holiday for 10 days and unplugged it. When we got back, it wouldn't load programme data due to a fault whilst loading series. I cleared all the programme guide data, and this sorted the problem. Last month I went on holiday again, same problem, same cure sorted it. Now, without any warning, starting last weekend, it's very unstable, rebooting by itself every 10 mins or so!! Any ideas on what I can do to solve this problem (it's diving my kids mad!!)??

Sounds like the power supply on its way out.

Out of curiosity why do you turn your Tivo off when you go on holiday? Everyone else seems to use their Tivo to catch all their favourite programs that they would otherwise miss while they are away.

When it reboots, due it freeze or anything before it reboots.. For example. Does it lock up the picture, or blank out for a few minutes, then reboots???
If it randomly reboots, then it could be the PSU, if it locks then reboots I would suspect the HDD???
Do you still have the old HDD (s), you could stick them back in to eliminate them??
Could be overheating, check the fans are a turning, and the temp from the system info page.
PSU's can be brought from people on here who will be along shortly or ebay.
Where abouts are you in the UK, someone one local may lend you a PSU to eliminate yours??

Hiya,
Thanx for the replies. The internal temp on the system information screen comes up as 45C (NORMAL) and the fans are still turning. The tivo itself just radomly reboots, the screen doesn't freeze, but it does go black for a few seconds first.
I turn my tivo off when I go on holiday for two reasons: 1. it'd record so many programmes for my kids I'd only have to spend a day deleting them; 2. purely paranoia induced when I was a kid about fires starting if you left electrical equipment turned on unsupervised for any length of time! I'm rethinking this and will probably leave it on next time (my wife says I'm stupid!)
I like the idea of putting the old HDD's in, I never thought of that (I still have them in a box somewhere).
and I live near Cambridge.
Thanx for the great food for thought.
