I have been watching the Olympics in HD using channel 82. We live in the NYC market so these have remained our way primary HD channels and we can't get OTA (we have the HR20 upstairs but the family hates it so the 10-250 remains the primary receiver).

We can watch it fine, but something weird is going on to prevent recordings -- though they don't tell you up-front. For example, last night I hit the record button around 11:45pm to be able to replay that great swim match-up for the kids in the morning. The button worked fine and acted like it was recording the buffer and what was left. But when we tried to play it in the morning it just gave us a message saying there was no video source because we were trying to record a channel we didn't receive. Today I tried setting up a scheduled recording of on 82 and again it recorded the event but when you try to play it says there is no video because we don't get the channel.

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone able to successfully record 82 on their 10-250? Since everything else works perfectly it doesn't seem like a specific hardware failure.

I have both the HD TIVO and the Directv HD DVR.
I was watching the CHannel 82 HD NBC on the Directv HD DVR and hit record after an hour of watching the opening ceremonies.
Now I know you were using the Tivo but the Directv HD DVR worked fine.

Strange thing to happen.

Yes, to be clear it was a problem with the DirecTiVo box. I haten't tried it on the DirecTV unit.

Yes. That's what we call a "bug". Sometimes (rarely) the tivo gets it's wires crossed and doesn't actually put recorded stuff where it's supposed to. I ran into the same thing a few weeks ago. The problem is, the recording never *actually* started. It did everything up to that point -- hence the red light. If you tried to cancel the recording, you'd find you cannot. And if you force the unit to change the channel, it'll crash out-right. This is known to happen to non-dtivo's too, but dtivo's rarely get software updates these days.

Wow, so you're telling me that the Tivo has this thing called a bug that makes it so it won't actually record what you told it to? Shhhh....don't tell some people here, it'll crush them that the Tivo isn't perfect. ;)

I do remember any time I'd get weirdness like that on my DirecTivo's that I'd reboot them and they would behave better for a while.

Now on to a more serious troubleshooting, do you actually get the channel in if you watch live? I ask because all those NY local channels were converted to MPEG4 a few weeks ago and they are now up in the high 300's I believe (obviously only available on an MPEG4 receiver). But those MPEG2 versions should still be available for little bit yet (but not much longer). Maybe you need to have a re-authorization sent to your HR10 to "rehit" it as they say along with a reboot.

Good luck.

Yeah, if it would have been the DirecTV unit that did this, RS4 and his lemming followers would be jumping all over it, claiming this is proof of what POS the unit is. But since he is on an endless bashing crusade, he will probably still find a way to blame this on DirecTV and not Tivo.
