How can I use my Direct tv DVR40 with my new FIOS service? Is it possible?

Not possible at all. You need a TiVo that can either directly record from digital cable with cablecard, or record from the FIOS STB. An SD-DVR-40 or and other DirecTV TiVo cannot do either, just the DirecTV satellite signal, and OTA a well on the HR10-250.
