subscription required

Hi
Just joined the community and looking forward to learning about how TIVO works. I have looked through the faq's and can't find the answer, I have been given a TIVO and need to know if I have to subscribe or can I use it as a stand alone dvr with no subscription?

You can use it standalone to make timed recordings much like a VCR but to get the full TiVo functionality (and that's a lot!) you need a sub.

I also was given a Tivo a few years back, ran it as a standard recorder for months before opting for a subscription, pay £10 per month and think it's worth every penny!! :)

Hook it all up first and test.
Then check the system information page - you never know it might have a lifetime sub!
